Well now I'm really confused. The current axle on it is as I know it a solid one piece axle. The axle I just picked up is a two piece axle. Your saying they came with the two piece axle originally? The new one is out of a 96 f250 if that helps
It is a 1971 f250 4x4 manual trans with a 460. The axle is out of a 1996 f250 4x4 diesel
I'm pretty much thinking you're opening up a can of worms. Mounting the required pivot brackets and location etc. BTW, did you check gear ratios between the 1996 front and 1971 rear to be the same?
Just wondering why you would want to replace that Dana 44 with a much less desirable Dana 50? There is a reason why all the f250 guys swap in solid Dana 60's from F350's.
Yes, that Dana 44 is a much stronger axle than that Dana 50 Twin Traction Beam (TTB) axle. Depending on what 44 that you have, the 44-6CF, or the heavy duty 6CF-HD. The 6CF has 8 spindle bolts, and the HD has 12. The HD also has the large locking hubs. Why do you want to convert, for disc brakes? You could find a Dentside 44 for that, plus a low-pinion 60, plus the holy grail 78-79 Reverse Spiral high pinion 60 for much less trouble than trying to add a crossmember for the pivot point on the weak 50 TTB. Or you could buy a new axle from Dynatrac with all the goodies. Plus your frame is much narrower than the 80-98 frame that your TTB axle is from. You would have to move the spring pads in closer.
I have to replace the axle because the po did an axle swap and it is junk. But apon further review im gonna get a different axle. Are all dana 60s and 44s 410 geared?
