Disc Brake Conversion Question

I have located a complete stock front axle with a 1966 Corvette Disc Brake conversion for my 1954 F100. I am planning on staying with the stock wheels. Has anyone done this set-up. Is this conversion a kit. The price is right and I could get the axle set up over the winter. Thanks for the input.

I believe if it's corvette, it'll have a Chevrolet bolt pattern.

typically when you buy the disc brake conversion kit you have a choice of staying with the stock Ford bolt patter (5 x 5 1/2") or changing to the small chevy pattern (5 x 4 1/2....or maybe its 4 3/4 I can't remember). That being said, if the axle you are looking at is already set up for the chevy pattern then you could probably contact the manufacturer of the kit and get the changover parts.

From what I recall, most of those kits that use the Ford pattern call for a 73-90 F-150 brake rotor, inner bearing and seal. The outer bearing is typically from a mid sized Chevy; chevelle, monte carlo, etc. These kits also come with a spindle adapter which is a small sleeve that slips over the spindle to accomodate the inner bearing. I have no idea if that adapter would be the same for the chevy rotor and the Ford rotor.

A call to the manufacturer might be in order.

I was afraid of that.

The key component is the spindle adapter. You could probably still contact one of the suppliers and ask them about the spindle adapter to see if its the same for the Ford rotor as it is for the chevy rotor.
I'm pretty sure the caliper bracket is the same for both applications as both applications use the big GM calipers. It might be as simple as changing out rotors and inner bearings.

The guy is asking $175 for the works. It might be worth the gamble if if I can get him closer to $100.

Not too bad of a price, especially if you can talk him down

Good luck
