Does anyone know what the dimensions of a swb 3hd trans drive shaft? Since the transmission has no slip yoke it must use a two piece drive shaft and carrier bearing. Is there a unique crossmember for the carrier bearing?
I have a 53 F250 frame in my yard, it had the 3HD with 2 piece shaft and the crossmember is unique. It has more of a flat top and has holes for the carrier bearing.
Jeff, I have a drive shaft like that out of a 56 f100. I wounded why it was different from the other f100 drive shafts I've seen. We can arrange to get it sent to you if you want it. Send me a private message early next week if interested.
James, does the '56 HD trans have a long extension housing like most cars? I suspect the driveshaft is shorter than for a 48-52. Still might be good for modifying if the splines are good.
Ross, the drive shaft came from a 56 parts truck I bought that didn't come with the transmission. The splined front of the shaft still has the universal joint pressed on. The overall length is 63 1/2 inches which is what my Ford parts book shows is correct for the midfifties F100s withe the 3 speed heavy duty 3 speed trannys. Jeff you can have it for $45.00 if your friend picks it up. $65 plus shipping if I have to take it to the UPS store. I live 35 miles from the closest one.
