My 62 Ford F500 is almost ready to be put back in to service. I swapped out the original 223 due to excessive wear and swapped in a 223 from a 56 f100. I tried to start the donor engine on a stand but was only able to get it to backfire out the intake. I suspect the distributor was installed wrong. How does one go about lining up the dizzy gear correctly so its timed right? Also, i am missing the hold down clamp that keeps the dizzy tight. Where would I be able to get one of these? Neither the original nor the donor engine seems to have one. Also, what is the correct points gap for these? Thanks for the help!
Points gap is 016, to time it, pull #1 plug, with your thumb over the plug hole, turn the engine the correct way, till you feel compression. Turn it more till the timing marks line up, you are on tdc #1. Pull the dist, turn the rotor till it points at the 1 on the cap, put it back in, make sure it still points in the direction, in stall cap, rotor, and any wires you unhooked, and if everthing else is ok, you're ready to go. Firing order is 1 5 3 6 2 4.

My son and I are messing with getting a 223 running in a 64 right now. If memory serves there is no hold down on the distributor. 2 bolts with thick washers is all I seem to recall.
