I'm trying to find some info on a truck I came across. It is a 1966 Ford F-250 supercab, shortbed truck. I do in fact mean a supercab and not a four door crewcab. I have seen the four door crew cabs before but never a supercab. I had thought that Ford introduced the supercab in 1974.
The truck is sitting at ground level in a patch of alders, but is restorable. Not too much rust, no major body damage. Looks like the original two tone red and white paint. License plate say it hasn't been registered since 1981. It has a 6 foot styleside bed and a two door supercab, with the chrome "custom cab" emblems on the upper part of the front doors. The rear window is non opening as are the side windows in the rear of the supercab. The front seat looks like a split bench style (the passenger seat is gone) and the rear seat is a solid bench. From the back of the front door to the back of the cab measures about 34 inches. There is a "V8" emblem on the front of the hood, and "Twin I Beam F-250" emblems on the front fenders. The wheels are 8-lug. The gascap is on the back corner of the cab on the drivers side. Wheelbase is roughly 130 inches.
How rare is this truck or does anyone know anything about it? It doesn't look like a hack job or anything custom. It looks completely stock! Does anybody have anything like this or know where I could get more info?
The body style puts it between 61-66, the lack of steps in the floor pan makes it a 65-66 and the grille with the little "bird beak" puts it at a 1966. The steering column goes through the dash (65-66 were like this), and isn't hung underneath like the 61-64 models. I also think the Twin I Beam design was introduced in 1965, I might be wrong on that point.
I wasn't able to find a VIN number though.
Unless it's a 65 with a 66 grille in it, I can't beleive it's anything other than a 66.
I saw a photo of one like this on the web a while back, and the owner had built it with donor body parts. If I remember right, it was a red '66. The one you saw might also be a "special".
Truckfarmer; The 66 Supercab I found is in the Southcentral Alaska area. It would be a very long trip.
It's not tagged for sale, but If I can find the vehicle owner or property owner I'll see about getting it myself. I'm certainly not expecting to find another one.
