repair a passenger side mirror

I have a 1997 expedition. My side mirror has become disconnected to the backing plate, the plastic piece that the mirror attached to broke. I need to replace the plastic plate that the mirror attaches to but it is not sold separately.

I was wondering if it would be possible to purchase a replacement mirror and use the inside mechanism so that I could keep using the existing mirror housing. Does anyone know if this might work or do I have to actually replace the entire mirror housing.

would be best to do the whole thing, i replaced mine under 35min and mirror cost was 80$ since you have a expo it should be cheaper

I am trying to avoid having to have the mirror repainted, how did you deal with that issue?

I think the plastic painted shell comes off.

I suggest checking with local salvage yards, you might get lucky and get the right color and not have to worry about paint. You could also contact LKQ recyclers as they have good parts and prices.
