Okay.. First I want to say I have read a lot about replacing the " standpipes and dummyplugs". The only thing is I have not seen any specific's ? Maybe I haven’t read enough but I'd like say that because I am compiling a “preventative update/repair” list, which I intend to post this weekend, I have been reading a lot. So my blazing question is what are they, where are they located and what are the part numbers? I suspect it has something to do with the STC fitting but I'm not sure. Can someone please paint this picture for me
Do the stand pipes and dummy plugs go hand in hand with the STC fitting change or are they seperate. Meaning if you do one do you also have to do the other?? I plan to change the STC fitting so do I also have to change the Standpipes and dummy plugs? If not then why change them (stand pipe and plugs?). are the new ones an upgrade? How do the old ones fail?
Wit the STC it's a bad/poor fitting.
The standpipes have "O"rings that fail
I am not sure what years have what parts.
Some one will be nice and fill us in.

There a several signs of a failed dummy plug. The most common will be miss firing. Since the truck utilizes oil pressure to fire the injectors if a dummy plug has a significant leak you could lose pressure resulting in no ignition. Its not really a question of if but when they fail. When the rails are removed to replace the dummy plug the standpipes are exposed. They usually tend to twist/bend slightly upon removal making them on time use only. I would not recommend reusing. If I remember correctly they are an 18mm socket. Bullet proof diesel has them for a reasonable price. If you do one you do the other. I have many friends and the STC fitting went out. You could hear a rattle/vibration during initial acceleration coming from what seemed the rear of the motor. A lot of info but I would do it all. One reason I am glad I have an 03

Lowe what year is your truck? And no you don't have to change standpipes with the STC fitting!! But if you all ready have it apart I would! I have both of mine changed, the SCT fitting is better it wont break! Which will cause a no start, the standpipes are a one piece and will not fail! The old ones have a tendency to leak and will cause a hard start or a no hard start!! Most of your hot no start problems are from this!!!
2005 f350 6.0l. Which as I have been reading is not the best year model.
No it's actually a good year!! The early years 03's had a lot more problems, the 05's and on were better years!! I have an 05 it's been a damn good truck 109k on the meter!! I've only had to change out one oil and EGR cooler! Now my FICM is starting to get week and I plan on changing it real soon!!
Pipes and plugs replaced.. Thought I would add a few pic’s to put a picture to the parts. Knowing what to look for was my biggest challenge before I started. Pictures speak volumes. Dummy Plug Drivers side Dummy Plug Pass side <OStand Pipe Pass side</O <O</O> <OStand Pipe New UPGRADE</O <O></O> <OStand pipe Old</O <O></O> <OHope these help someone!</O <ODirk</O <O</O
Great pictures! So is there only one dummy plug and stand pipe per side?
yep. The dummy plug is in the front and the stand pipe is in the rear. (same both sides) Most likely the standpipe won't all come out. As you can see in the one picture I had to wrap electrical tape (one and a half revolution) around the o ring and reinstall. Then when you remove it the second time it should all come out.

Ya think???
You will spend More to Bullet Proof your 05 than any 03
Go Ahead run the Numbers Dont go cheap and leave anything out either LOL
At 109K your coming up on STC and standpipes and Dummey Plug Failure
the 03 Has None of these^^^
And that EGR Cooler you Already had to replace if it would have been the round style 03 ODDS are it wouldnt have Blown out
03 EGR Coolers are Already like the BPD Upgraded Cooler
Now in the end after the Bullet Proof the 05+ will be the better one just going to cost more to get it there
LMFAO
There ALL GREAT Trucks I would own any Year 6.0L before a 6.4L or 6.7L
thar she blows! lol. benny's right about the differences. whichever year is better is based on ur perception of it.
i will admit tat the general consensus is that the 05 to 07 were better, and i agree but also, there were some advantages tat the 03 & 04 had tat we dont.
i'm at 112k, and she's still strokin' me. lmao. to the dodge goat and the chevy *****, i say "bring it on, bee-ches". lol. have fun y'all.
Looking at updating my Ford. The oem parts are only available for the square egr cooler. " These parts fit all Ford 6.0L made with the square style EGR cooler (9/22/03 and later)." Ford 6.0L Powerstroke Updated Stand Tube & Dummy Plug Kit
We have a 2003 6.0 with round egr tube. How do we or can we upgrade.
