Ok, I am new to FTE and am quite sure there are plenty of posts about what I am about to ask, but, being a girl you gentlemen and other ladies can help i'm sure! Towing my tractor I heard a pop however did not know where it originated. When I arrived at my destination I could smell the coolant and popped the hood before shutting it down. There was quite a mess under the hood and upon inspection, found oil in reservoir. Truck never ran hot and after I added water limped truck back to house. No water in oil at this time either. So, the question I have is.. am I safe to say my oil cooler is what popped and if so, since I don't have water in the oil and a good level is my head gasket safe so far?
'04 F250 with '07 6.0 with 71k on it. Also did EGR bypass 07/11.
Husband in Afghanistan and don't want to get reamed at dealer.... lol
I never heard a "pop" when my oil cooler blew and didn't have a mess under the hood. I'm new to the 6.0 club but you may have blown the degas bottle cap. That could be head gaskets, cracked head or a number of things. None of which are good.
It is not common for the water to get into the oil, but it does happen occasionally.
I wouldn't worry about the head gaskets at this point. Get the oil cooler replaced, get the coolant system properly flushed, I would change out the rubber hoses in the system, and then see how it runs. Any local shops that are connected with BulletProofDiesel (they have a list on their website)?
I personally don't mind the Ford Gold coolant at this point, but you may want to go to an ELC coolant - it seems to be significantly more "trouble free".
