2000 Navigator Vibration at Hiway speeds

I didnt see anything that fit my situation, so I thought I'd start a new thread. And let me first say. I Love my Navi.

I have a 2000 navigator that has just over 100k. It has recently developed a vibration that is most noticeable at highway speeds above 50. The vibration occurs under normal acceleration and is more noticeable on power off decel. Not noticeable under moderat to hard accel. I have eliminated tire balance(rotate and balance with not change) and u-joints (replaced). The vibration is noticeable in the wheel and at feet more than in the seat, but some in the seat as well. To me this would indicate the issues is front end, but with all wheel drive its hard to tell. Also there is no indication of a wheel bearing problem.

I have done the hard corner test for front CV's but do not notice any notable evidence of a problem there. I suspect the right front CV just because. But I do not know how to verify this short of replacing the Short axel. Is there any way to verify this issue or test for a bad front CV on all wheel drive? The standard tests don’t work here. Are there any other possibilities that someone can suggest for me to investigate?

Vibration under power is usually front axle CV. Check the CV for play.

I believe I explained that the vibration was not realized under (power) moderate or hard acceleration. Because of the angle of the CV joints when the vehicle is raised, it is virtualy impossible to test for play in the joint. I was hoping for some manner short of disassembly to be able to verify the CV Joint is the cause.

Just lift it by the lower A-arm.

But put me down for a bad idler arm. (The idler arm usually has a grease fitting that very few think to grease. )

I dont think mine has a zerk, but it is something to check. Normally i wouldnt discribe an idler problem as a vibration, more of a shimmy, and i havent noticed any tire feathering, but none the less it only takes a minute to check the idler. The vibration isnt that bad, but i am so in tune with the truck that it drives me crazy. I may have to wait for it to get worse to actually find it.

I think I need to start a new thread on this issue. After some further investigation. I find that the vibration is engine related. The vibration begins at about 1800rpm through about 2200 rpm. No misfire data, no miss just a very notable vibration at that rpm range. Any Ideas?

It could be either the torque converter or the harmonic balancer, with more emphasis on the TC.
