I have a 2011 F250 Diesel 2WD CC truck. I ordered it with the truck camper option. I have also installed the Firestone 5200 airbags with the Air Lift 72000 remote controller. I normally run 55-65 lbs. in the air bags. 99% of the time I have a Lance truck camper loaded on it. There is 10K miles on the truck. I live in SoCal, so we use it year round.
I've been very pleased with the handling. It drives great both on the freeway and on the street. The only correction would be to get rid of some of the side sway going down driveway aprons, dirt roads, etc.
I read the complete current thread on aftermarket shocks. I'm not sure what shocks came stock on my truck. I don't need the adjustable Rancho 90000, since I rarely take the camper off. I was looking at the Bilstein 4600 series, since that is what Bilstein recommends for my my year/model, etc.
Will it stiffen the side stability, or should I wait until I put another 15K on my stock shocks? I'm wondering if I will be wasting my money installing them at this point.
It's right about 10K. It rides fine right now. I was looking to stiffen up the side sway. It feels very comfortable and handles well on the road, cornering, etc. I'm trying to figure out if the Bilstein 4600 are better than the stock shocks. They probably are. But is it worth replacing fairly new OEM shocks for $300?
I really don't need the to be able to adjust the shocks. I almost always have the camper loaded on the truck. Also, they appear to be air adjustable. Don't need the extra complication for a fixed load.
I carry a 9.5' Chalet Ascent camper every weekend. I added the Rancho RS9000XL shocks and they are worth every penny. Adjusted to 9 in the rear and 6 in the front when the camper is on. When unloaded I do 2 in the back and 4 in the front. The adjustment takes less than 2 minutes for all four. The difference is notable.
For reduced side sway I added a Helwig Big Wig rear sway bar, that too is worth every penny.
I would go with bilstein 5100's since there only 25.00 more for a set of 4. $ wheel parts have them on sale (along with other shocks) for $300 bucks for all 4! Hope to order mine in the next day or so.
