Help with shocks

I need help with find the right shocks for my truck. my truck is a 1977 f-250 ranger xlt camper special. It looks like it has a lift of some sort in the back. it has some blocks under the rear end that have some weird ears on them. I bought some shocks from a local tire shop, but win I tried to put them on they were about 3 or 4 inches to short,so I am not sure which ones I need to get. If any body could help me that would be great.

I believe the camper specials had larger blocks in the back (stock). Mine is a camper special and had 3.5" blocks. This being the case they may need longer shocks than the regular models.

Just thinking here, but did you pull the shock to extension before trying to fit it? I know it's basic, I just wanted to start simple. Even the shorter shocks SHOULD extend enough to fit on there. Unless of course they just gave you the wrong shock all together.

I have kind of an oddball setup that won't apply here since my truck is 16" above stock.

Here's the best info I could find you. I pulled up some stuff on the Rancho site (not saying you have to use them, but just for comparrison). They show 2 models for the 77.5-79 F250. One option is for trucks with 0" lift height and the other option calls for trucks with a stock 1.5-3.5" lift. So your truck would be considered the lifted version here as it has the larger rear block. The spec differences are that the shock for the camper special has a compressed length of 16" and extended length of 26". The shock for a regular model F250 4x4 is 13" compressed and 20" extended.

So, sounds like you need to take those back and just let the store know that you need the "other" model. They should have them in their books.

Hope that helps a bit.
