Hey all, not sure what to do, I was on the road all day today, well over 150 miles on the highway, and some stop and go. Toward the end of the trip, when coming to a stop. I noticed smoke coming from the passenger front wheel well. I can not smell so I asked my wife and she said it smells like burning rubber or oil. I checked the oil and it was fine. So leaving me with a rubber smell and only really seeing it while coming to a stop or stopped, dont know what it is and this is now my family car with my two kids so please help with what you think. thanks all
could be anything. check your battery cables, of they are hot to the touch you found your problem. tire could be rubbing on something or perhaps your passenger brake caliper was freezing up? when you brake does the rig pull to one side more then the other?
thank you much im going to check that out in a few, as far as pulling, i did notice that today, when braking hard it wanted to pull me to the left, what is that a clue of? again, thanks for you help
ok i just ran the truck for about a half hour, and i went to go feel the batter cables and they were cool as a cucumber. Now im leaning toward the breaks because there was absolutely no smoke, please give me your opinions thanks again
Yeah if your passenger caliper is stuck it may be dragging on the rotor, causing the burning smell/smoke. however only the drivers side caliper is closing to slow when brakes are applied and the passenger side wants to keep going, thus pulling to the left.
If it is a caliper you wanna fix ASAP so hopefully the rotor isn't warped. Calipers are cheap (35$ for a reman just did both) and easy to swap out, just need a buddy to help you bleed the brakes or you can get those fancy speed bleeder valves. I actually bled mine by myself with the cunning use of an extra transmission pan I had laying around, but it was a PITA.
ok im now 90% on the caliper, I will get on that right away, might i say I DIG THIS SITE, you replied to me withing 40 mins of my posting, it i need help ill ask if you dont mind. take care, have fun, be safe cya

Mine did that a year ago in stop and go traffic. It was my pass side brakes smoking from all the quick stopping.
