I have an 05 ex with about 120,000 miles on it. Has always ran great. Recently, it started shutting off on deceleration. Doesn't wind down or anything, just shuts off, does it most of the time so it's a real pain to drive. Took it to a local mechanic and it continues to shut off but it isn't throwing any kind of code. They've went through everything they can think of - anyone have any experience with anything like this?
I use my truck everyday and so does my daughter. It's become a safety thing now because if we had to panic stop, I don't think we could when it shuts off.
If it is a gas v10 or v8 it is probably your idle air control valve. It will not throw any codes when it is out. You can take it out and clean it successfully, as I had to this summer. Took me a whole 45 min start to finish. It is located behind throttle body.
I had the same thing happen to me once....the garage kept replacing fuel pumps and fuel pump relays and it would do the same thing after a couple of weeks.Turned out to be the wiring harness for the fuel pump from the relay...when the truck was sitting still or on the gas, it checked out ok. It was a wire corroded on the inside of the insulation. When you would let off the gas, the body would flex enough to disrupt the power and the fuel pump would shut off.

Hmmmm....'05. I wonder if the drive by wire was put in the gassers that year. They were I believe on the F250's. If it's a drive by wire, then no IAC valve.
Gas or Diesel? I have had this issue on my 05 6.0L.....easy fix.
I've had the same problem with my '05 6.0L. It will happen a few times in a row and then will be fine for awhile (weeks at a time) and then start up again. I am puzzled. Would you mine sharing the easy fix?

Help?
If yours has the 6.0, mine was doing the same thing and it was shutting down just like it was running out of fuel. Like everyone else checked fuel separator, fuel filter, fuel pump, everything, but it was not throwing any codes. One night on a trip to South Carolina after crossing into the state pulled off at exit 1 and it shut down. Tried everything to get it started, drained fuel separator, changed fuel filter on frame, cleaned out fuel filter on engine, checked engine shut off switch, nothing changed it, had it towed to dealer and they found out that it was the fuel pressure pump, evidently these trucks have both a fuel pump and a fuel pressure pump that maintains the right amount of pressure on the fuel pump. Once fixed that cured the problem.
You might want to have it checked, dont let it go too long like I did.

Mine only happened on deceleration, the engine would just die. No codes. The last thing the mechanic did was to clean the EGR again. When he looked inside the EGR port there was quite a bit of carbon. Apparently the EGR was hanging open just enough to stall once in a while. It didn't happen all the time. Cleaned that out and I have not had an issue in almost 40k.

Thanks, bro. I have been contemplating doing the egr delete. I may have to pull the trigger on that sooner than later.
