I bought an 09 F-250 CC short bed 4x4 truck. I opted for the XL model because I didnt want to pay for power windows, locks etc. Its got A/C and intermittant wipers and thats about all for options LOL. What I do like about my truck is that it has manual locking hubs and an actual transfer case shifter, none of the auto hub/push button/**** turning electric 4x4 engagement stuff. I just couldnt see paying upwards of 5-7k more for a truck with the bells and whistles, especially sice I have 4 kids, 2 dogs that like to make messes. My question is how are the stock ford manual hubs? I see they are plastic on the outside, are they weak, should I upgrade to WARN hubs or something. Also, how are the t-cases as far as strength?.

I'm right there w/ you - it's a work truck, not a cadillac. Just less stuff to break and I know I'll always have 4wd. As for the hubs, I'm pretty sure you're SOL. I don't think anyone makes a replacement hub for the 2005 and up trucks. Good news is, the Ford hubs seem to be fairly strong -they must be or Warn would have made a replacement for them by now. Pretty sure t-case is the same as all the rest of the trucks just w/ a manual shifter. I don't hear about too many problems w/ them.
Main thing with the auto hubs is not to get in a hurry for the 4 wheel drive to engage with the hubs. I always try and do the "back and forth routine" before I put the hammer down in 4 wheel drive. I have never had any problems with the automatic hubs since 2002 and I had electric 4X4 on my 2002 and my 2008. Seems to be pretty tuff.
Ya know MOST of the problems I hear with the AUTO hubs and electric T-case engagement came with the Explorers and the Broncos. I have a bunch of friends with them and they are always having problems. I had a chevy half ton and I was at a red light on a slight hill (in the winter), it turned green and I was stuck so I shfted into 4x4..............well I couldnt roll forward cuz I was on a hill and I couldnt go backward because of the guy behind me and with my Chevy you HAD to roll forward or backwards a little to get the 4x4 to engage.....royaly pissed me off and was embarrasing. Cool, thanks for the input fellas. I dont plan on running big tires or any hardcore 4x4ing with this truck.
