I just did my complete front end last month. I did the Timkin hubs. I found the timkin hub / bearing on amazon.com for $212 each To my door. everyone else wanted $280 ish.. I also looked at the national bearing / hub for $140. Now you have just spent more than the Timkin would had cost you in the first place. I have had no problems with them. Sorry and Good luck..
Destroying a unit bearing in a month would be nearly impossible. Are you sure the bearing is bad? What kind of noise is it making? Do you have both top to bottom and side to side play with the tire lifted off the ground?
Something is definitely fishy here. We need more info for a diagnosis...
I replied to this post and lost track of it.. I posted something on the board as a reply to this post.. the day after i replied here the first time, my front end developed a clicking noise on the driver side. I jacked up the truck and spun the wheel. i could hear the click. I took the wheel off, then the caliper, and re-installed the wheel and spun by hand. the click was still there when you spun the wheel.. then a thought, i removed the center cap off the wheel and put the wheel back on. NO CLICKING.. I put everything back on except the cap and no click on the jack or driving down the street.... Just food for thought..
Well i dont still know whats going on im now told by ford mech that the spindle could be bent putting to much pressure on one side so ill shop locally monday
I don't see how they can say your spindle is bent.. Even if, it would had shown abnormal tire wear on one side of the tire, on the side that is bad. ? was the truck pulling when you let go of the wheel ?
I think on the 4x4 hubs that it is part of the hub/bearing assembly, But the hub bolts on with four bolts around the bearing. So i don't think that is possible and would be replaced when you change hubs anyway.. It's Not like a spindle on a two wheel drive, Where the bearings in the hub slips over the spindle with a washer and nut on the end. so i doubt its what they call a spindle. I don't see how you can bend a knuckle unless the truck was hit on that side before you got it. even if the ball joints are That bad and possibly making the tire ride and pull on the bearing. you would still see abnormal tire wear on the inside of the tire.. IF the alignment is that far off to make the bearing go bad that fast. the truck would have to be pulling to the side that is bad..
I Have 240000 miles on my truck and have replaced the hubs several times i think that its best to replace both sides at the same time if you have one bearing on its way out it creates stress on the other side killing the other side prematurely I have also upgraded my 99's to 2000's the bearings are bigger you also have to replace the brake rotors they are wider Keep the good bearing hub behind the seat as a spare got stranded in burly Idaho once on a holiday weekend ed and osker came to the rescue great people.
