I have a '68 F-250 Camper Special, automatic with a 390, that is doing a strange thing.....When I am coming to a stop after exiting the highway the choke on my carburetor "kicks out" when I come to a stop and almost makes me rear-end the cars in front of me. It only happens when I have been at high speeds for a while and come to a complete stop.
I can't figure out why this is happening....please help
What carb do you have? Heat tube, electric, manual choke?
What do you mean "kicks out"? Do you mean that the choke closes after high speed and throws you up to fast idle?
Milehigh, you have some sort of a linkage problem. Here is what you can do:
When she is hot, kill the engine, pull the air cleaner and manually open the throttle. See if you see the problem, that is the choke shutting.
Check the hold-down fastener for the choke cable, tighten it, and check the setting. We can advise. Then try backing out the fast idle screw which connects the throttle to the choke via linkage.
Since you have a safety issue you can back the fast idle screw way back to disable fast idle until you figure out what is going on.
Don't oil any carb linkage.
Hi there,, i just want to ask what is the connection of standard carburetor choke and throttle? Is it the same? cause when i have to ask something about the carb choke the google always give me carb/throttle??can someone please explain this to me. thanks in advance.
