timing!

I have a 2004 150 with the 3v
I have the whole engine out! the timing change broke and when i first looked at it looked like the cams were opposite 180 degrees. Pulled the engine to check the valves, they look fine going to get them checked to be on the safe side! but back to timing it there are 2 makes on the phasers one looks like an L with an arrow and the other is a hash mark on it. It is the same on each phaser which on do i go by?
Thanks in advance!

I have the same problem and asked the same question and have not gotten an answer. It seems that no one knows.

Wish I could help you guys out,but unless you have a GOOD service manual, your gonna have to wait.I however purchased an online manual from alldatadiy.com for my 98 CRV,and it shows everything I needed to know. They appear to have all makes and models.
NO I dont work for them, but I think the original "subscription" was for a year, and around 35.00.All pages are printable, and they have all the specs as well as procedures.Closest thing ive seen to the OEM Service manual.
It was WELL worth the investment....Good luck.

Yea I have access to alldata. I have called around and looked at manuals and alldata. Seems like I have a 50/50 shot on getting it right! I was told I had to go out and buy the updated cam phasers? Why should I have to do that nothing is wrong with mine and at 250 a piece not going to do that! Im at a lost here right now!

If you put the crank at TDC, you will have 1 "L" and 1 "R" facing up on the phazers. They will not face directly up, but will be perpendicular to the flatness of the head(remove the head from the engine and set it on a flat surface, and it will face up). The "L" is on the passenger side and the "R" is on the driver's side.

Sorry, the "L" and "R" are backwards. L is driver's side and R is passenger. My bad!!

ok Thank you! I have got many different answers on this. some say go with the hash marks on it and some say go with the L and R. Heads are being checked out right now. either way the cams have moved (jumped time when the chain broke) Have my fingers crossed that the valves are ok! no marking on the pistons to make it look like they have hit the valves

If you have a "L" and "l" on your phasers then they are the old style that makes the knocking noise and should be replaced. If you dont want to replace them the use the "L" on the driver's side and the "l" on the passenger side. If you cant see the marks on the chain then stretch it out on a table and mark the end links and use those for the timing marks. It will look like this: ===================l Mark the single link on one end and both links at the other end, I use white paint. Then align the single link with the dot on the crank gear and the double links with the mark on the phaser. The mark goes between the 2 links. Put the crank keyway at 11 o'clock which will put the dot at around 7 o'clock that will make sure none of the pistons are at TDC.
