thinking about buying a 2004

I am looking at a 2004 f150 crew 5.4 with tow pkg 3.73 gears. It has about 80k on it. I am looking at it to replace my trusty 1999 expedition with the tow pkg and 3.73 gears as well. I pull a 5k lb. travel trailer I am wondering if there will be any difference in the towing between the two. My expedition does a great job but I am wanting a truck.

The 2004 has more power, but with the extra weight it's not that big a difference. My '07 pulls great with our 4500 lb. camper. Just be sure you get a service history and hopefully the plugs have already been changed. They're great trucks, but the early ones do have some issues. I'm sure one of our '04 gurus will be able to tell you just what to look for. Good luck!

If there isn't going to be much of a difference maybe I will keep my expedition kinda like not havin a payment. I thought there would be a major difference in towing as the max tow ratings are like 3k lbs between the two.

The biggest difference between my '07 and my '00 is the fuel economy, particularly when hauling a load. The '04 and up trucks are quite a bit heavier, so even with 40HP and 15lb. ft. improvements over the 2V 5.4, I don't think there is much of a performance benefit. But like I said, my '07 pulls our 4500 lb. camper with no issues all through the Rockies, while getting 2-4 MPG better when hauling than our '00.

I went from a 2002 to a 2004. I thought the 02 was a great truck with plenty of power, but the 04 seems to have quite a bit more. I also like the interior of the 04 much better than the 02. The handling is much improved too.

x2 on the interior and handling. I do hate the oil filter placement on the '04 and up 5.4s though...

well I bought it I just have to wait for the dealer to take care of the cam phasers I noticed after a short test drive that they were making the tell tale diesel sound at idle. They said they would replace them as part of our deal so I took it. Hope I like the truck as much as I liked my expedition. One question I have is can I use the brake control wire harnes from my 1999 expedition in the 2004 F150?

Any service history? If it has 80k on trans with no oil change I would do total trans flush with NO cleaner chemicals and keep to Motocraft 5w20 oil and filter in the block. IMHO

I wouldn't do a transmission flush and get stuff stirred up. I would change the filter and change the fluid only.
