Question Universal Garage Door Opener Homelink Plug and Play

Did a search but only found similar questions with no answers. Anyone know if on a 2011 Lariat without this option from the factory if you can order a visor with the remote in it and plug and play or is more involved?

I don't know, but on a Lariat I would surely think the harness is there above the headliner. I bet is it plug and play, maybe with a BCM tweak involved, but would call Ford directly for verification.

I did exactly what you are talking about on my 2008 F150 Lariat. I wanted that feature and it didn't come with the truck I picked off the lot. So, I talked with the service manager and he said as long as the wiring harness was there, the visor with the remote was a self contained unit. So we quickly pulled the screws to that held the visor and the plug was right there. Three weeks later the part was in, I switched it in the parking lot in about 10 minutes.

My 2011 F250 Lariat came with the option.

I hope this helps.

I think those universal openers are self contained and only require power so even if the harness isn't there you should be able to easily hook it up.

I'm glad to see this issue being discussed. This option not available for 2011 Lariat Cab/chassis. I would love to install this, wonder if power harness is installed on these trucks as well. Or do you just have to get power to it somehow. My truck ordered Nov 15, was supposed to be at dealer today, but didn't make it yet. It's been sitting in Oklahoma City rail yard awaiting transport all week. Getting a little ticked off!!!

Thanks for the info. From reading on here and the net it looks like upfitter switches and universal garage remote are 2 fairly easy things to add if they are left off at the factory. Blows my mind why the home remote isn't standard at least on a Lariat or King Ranch. Seen lots of otherwise loaded trucks without this option and I bet the dealers just forgot to add it and like a lot of people assumed it came standard or was at least included in the Lariat Ultimate Package. They'll probably make it standard in the future but I bet the base price will increase by approximately the same amount as the option costs.

Anyone know about how much a visor with remote costs and possibly a part number or where I could find this info?

They're all over ebay although for different cars and trucks. You could retrofit one from another car maybe?

Search "homelink garage" on ebay

I'm going to ask my dealer about ordering the sunvisor for my truck, just wondered about hooking it up. Maybe I'll get it this coming week or it might sit another week, no one knows.

Homelink Sunvisor for Lariat

Has anyone found a source (other than Ford) for the homelink sunvisors which are option for Lariat pickups. Not available for my chassis cab. I didn't see them on Homelink's website. And, has anyone done this and actually found a wire harness to plug the sunvisor in to???

Does it get it's power from the same wires as the mirror light?

I wondered about getting power from the mirror light, but don't know. My truck isn't here yet. Supposed to be here Friday, but didn't get here. I was just curious if anyone had found a source for the HomeLink equipped sunvisor(other than Ford). My dealer thought it could be ordered as option on my Lariat, true for pickup, but not chassis cab.
