Just got done doing HG's, Studs, EGR delete, oil cooler on my 04. I also did a coolant flush and added a coolant filter. Just got my new edge insight CTS installed and now I have some questions. I have observed the following readings while running 70 mph with about 70 to 75 degree outside temp with no load.
ECT 192-194
EOT 208-210
most of the time I had about 14-16 degree difference
Today I observed these readings while running 70 mph in 85 degree temp while towing a 16' trailer with 2 atv's on it
ECT 192-210
EOT 216-230
most of the time 18-20 degrees difference with 26 degrees once
Why am I seeing so much of a difference in temps between oil and coolant. I was expecting 6-10 degrees. What could be the problem?
I can't answer why your oil temps are that high empty, but I will give you my readings doing 70 mph on level road this past Thurs. This was 1 hour of driving and the temp was 75 that day, ECT 192-193 EOT 198-199 truck was empty.
you need a new oil cooler ford spec is no more then a 15degree max diffence and we test them running them up a 2-3 mile hill wide open to try and make them fail i would put a cooler in it cause that is way to big of a diffence should be about 5 to 10 degrees tops and thats running it hard.
As I understand it, the coolant flows through the oil cooler, then through the EGR cooler, which you deleted. I don't know how EGR cooler deletes work, but they must have something built into them to allow the coolant to flow through, otherwise the oil cooler wouldn't get coolant either. Is it possible that there is something about your EGR delete that is preventing proper coolant flow?
the oil cooler came from ford. the egr delete kit is a sinister kit. The cooling fan did not come on. I heard it come on before doing the HG and studs but I did not have the insight at that time so I had no way to monitor the temps other than the oem gauges. I dont think the temps I saw were overly high but from what I have read on these forums I know they are not supposed to be very far apart. belt and pulleys seem to be fine. Where do I go from here?
dont have another device to check with. I cant imagine the edge would be the problem unless all the reading were off. plus when its cold the eot and ect are the same. How can I check my fan and pullies? why would they be suspect? what else could cause this? is it possible the oil cooler kit i got from ford is bad? I would think if it were a coolant flow problem or even a fan issue my coolant temps would be high. they are normal. im really stuck here. can I do any damage driving it with this difference in temp?
When you did the EGR delete did you keep the EGR valve itself hooked up ?. Cheezit did some research with respect to this and I think he found that depending on the MY, the presence of the EGR valve would affect fan performance.
