Ok this is my first post so please be gental, i resently ordered some mile marker hubs for my 2004 F-250XLT Diesel i installed them today out of bordem. They installed easly and quickly, i installed them in the free position just like the instructions said After installing i turned them to the lock position, they moved there smoothly but when i tried to turn them back to the free position it would only turn halfway. So i tried to do the same on the other side and it to would turn to lock but would only turn halfway to the free postion.
Has anybody had this problem? Or did i do something wrong when installing?
Now when i make hard turns i hear this clicking noise up by the front axle, it dosent happen every time i turn but could this posibley be the u-joints binding?
My Milemarkers operate smoothly. I don't see why both hubs should be sticking half-way. I would remove the hubs fully and bench test the engagement and disengagement. Also, when the hubs are locked and you make a tight turn, you will feel some u-joint clatter from the front end, even in 2WD, as the front halfshafts are going around.
If you had a locker in the front end and the halfshafts were bound up, then that could making unlocking the hubs more difficult (I imagine), but that's likely not your case.
Ok so today i took the hubs out and tested them like sugested, they worked perfectly fine. So i installed them once more and now they seem to work flawlessly. I guess i must have done somehing wrong but im sure i did it right the first time im sure of it. Im just dumbfounded at why this was happening. But anyways i thank you both for your time and help on my little issue.
I know this thread is outdated, but I had the same issue today with both sides of my MM locking hubs. (I encountered the problem when I removed my hubs to add some spacers that I got from MileMarker to eliminate the hub noise I had after I went over any bump). I was able to fix the issue of this thread, by pulling the 5/32 hex screws and rotating the outer hub assembly (not sure the exact term) by 1/6 of a rotation. In other words pull the outer hub assembly and rotate the clockwise or counter 1 hex bolt. Problem went away. Tested on both sides. I hope this makes sense.
