Here's a previous thread on the power vents. I think it names some names of folks who have put some in:

Looks like Sam (sdetwiel) is the guy you want to talk to!

Has anyone figured out the trick to make their cowl vent not leak when going through a rainstorm??? I have been deviled by this for a long time. I have a new seal (installed properly) and adjusted multiple times and cannot win

I installed the power cowl vent motor from Rocky Hinge. The arm from the motor is attached to a metal strap I made and tacked onto the bottom of the cowl vent....the strap spans the distance of the bottom opening of the cowl vent from front to back (maybe a couple inches long). Other than that, it is mounted under the cowl vent inside the cab on a horizontal bracket I made that is welded to the firewall, spans the vent opening then goes up 90deg to the lip of the vent opening and is tacked there. Hope this helps. Regards.

we need a different gasket when we use the power vent.. mine doesn't close all the way either.. and its a new gasket from MF.

the manual arm worked fine, but the dash extension is in the way..

Yeah, weld the dopey thing shut.

There's a reason the factories went away from having an open door scooping the elements onto the floor of the cabin.

weld it up

I was thinking about boxing it in under the dash and making a air induction system out of it. But if i close it when it rains and then it leaks and puts water in my carb. That would suck.Guess i could build a trap to drain any water off.

You can fix the water problem by making sure the vent is adjusted flat when it's closed, and also not using the aftermarket cowl vent seals being sold. Buy a softer piece of rubber seal or tube that will compress easier - allowing the vent lid to come in contact all the way around and seal.

It also helps alot of the underside of the vent lid is not rusted or pitted and makes a smooth seal.

By soft, I mean something similar to the sponge rubber fender to cowl welt (the thick one) used on 51-52 F-Series.

thanks.. I'll see if I can find something..

my cowl is perfect, painted both sides, and I am using the new cowl gasket..

I just put the hollow core door gaskets on the 55, and altho I hate gluing things on they are superb!.. doors close easier and seal better I think..

I found the aftermarket seals to be way too stiff. As the cover comes down it's at an angle and hits the back part of the seal first.

Then the back part of the seal flattens out as the cover comes down (and levels out) the rest of the way and contacts the front surface of the seal - in theory.

If it's too stiff, the cover can't compress the back part of the seal enough to come down enough to seal in the front.
