Anyone have experience with a Accel thruster EFI engine management system , are they ok ??... The reason i ask is because my son is going to buy a ranger with a 2.3 with a turbo 22# of boost , i guess it runs everthing , he says it has 300 hp to the rear wheels , i will find out soon....Lew
i've had experiance with accel spark plug wires that were new and the spark jumped, i've also had an accel HEI chip/module fail on me with around 10,000 miles on it. I don't like accel products but i have never used one of their more expensive products.
is that a 2.3 duratec engine or the older 2.3? I'm assuming newer. I've got a friend with a duratec 2.3 and it's so slow. I'm wondering how hard it would be to turbo.
be careful w/ that engine. I found out how easy it was to screw those up. My old '94 ranger only ran on 2 cylinders when I sold it. lol. The accel engine management should run pretty good without problems. I haven't run one personally, but some ricer guys I used to go to school w/ used to mess with stuff like that. I will see if any of them used it.
don't let the RPMs stay very high for very long. My brother was driving mine when it dropped 2 cylinders. He left it in 4th gear going 65mph on the interstate for a couple miles after he left the store. LoL. I laughed, but compression test showed hardly any compression on those 2 cylinders so who knows what happened to it.
Yeah we will be carfull with the boost & keep it in 5th on 95 , its got 3.55 gears & the boost dosn't really kick in till 3500 RPM , i think its a garett T2 turbo ??...
I haven't really looked into the boosted 2.3's much, but does it have a stock bottom end or what? Seems that some forged pistons, rods, and maybe a girdle would be needed, but I don't know jack on those little engines. 22psi is quite a bit of boost so maybe head studs too. Port the head and a bigger cam to get those boost numbers down lower for less stress.
I know its had alot of motor & head work done to it & i don't know jack about these little motors either , but my son has woked with them before so he knows more than me....
I'm glad he knows what he is looking at then. some of those boosted 2.3's run pretty stout from what I've seen on youtube, but I think a 5.0 would be more fun in a ranger. lol
