Question 4x4 vs. 4x2

Can anyone tell me what the difference in gas mileage is between the 4x4 and 4x2? I have a 98 Expy 4.6 4x4...couldnt imagine not have the 4 wheel drive....

4x4 vs. 4x2

I dont have one, cant imagine why anyone would want a 2x4 suv. The weight between the 2wd and 4wd isnt much, only about 500 lbs.
I would be willing to bet that it doesnt do any more than 2-3 mpg better than the 4x4. That comes out to about $1500 in 100,000 miles. Doesnt make that much difference.

Lightbulb 4x4 vs. 4x2

I think the primary attraction to a 2x4 beastie like the Expy is that if you don't need the 4x4 (example: you live in a pretty mellow climate, like Florida), then it's a few less (and costly) items that can potentially break.

4x4 vs. 4x2

I have a 1998 Expy 4x2 with the 5.4. This past summer on two trips to Atlanta, Ga. from Kansas City, Mo. I averaged between 18 and 19 miles to the gallon. The truck had 155,000 miles on it when bought in June and now has 171,000. So far I have replaced the alternator and the battery. This is the best vehicle my wife and I have ever owned. I'm hoping to get another 150,000 miles out of it.

Ford put the engine together so it would need a head job at 200,000. That's it. Happy trucking

4x4 vs. 4x2

I have a 2WD with limited slip diff and love it. It has thus far gotten me through every piece of bad weather situation that I could get it into including a blizzard this winter. I go on snowboad trips weekly and havent missed a one!

I went with 2WD for a couple reasons which include nut not limited to:

Better ride & handling, less weight = better power to weight ratio and braking response, and BIGGEST of all, nobody seems to want a 2WD so the deal I got was super sweet!

Oh, BTW, while I have no 'rock crawling' asperation for her as I fully intend to stay on the pavement, she gets along just fine. Also, the MPG was / is not a factor to me (maybe 1-2mpg differance at most) if it was I'd have looked for something quite a bit smaller.
