Hello everybody,
It's been awhile since I have posted, hope everyone is in good spirits. I'm in need of some advice concerning my Expy, I recently went over 100K, I have started to notice some hesitation when I accelerate. I think I'm in need of a tune-up.
My question is; who has done a tune-up on there Expy and what parts where replaced and what brands where used?
I have a 03, 4x2, 4.6L Expy; I'm thinking plugs, COP, fuel filter. I know I'm missing more parts, feel free to fill me in on what I need to replace. Any and all info will be appreciated.
The BIG issue is the spark plugs...wait, you have a 4.6 so no need to worry. On the 5.4 3v engines the plugs tend to break off when removed leading to many hundreds of dollars ti have them changed a real nightmare, but you are in the clear. congrats!
-from a 5.4 3v owner pushing 100k...
p.s. - buy your parts form partsguyed.com -- factory 100k plugs are only like 3.10 each!
At 100k you need to do the plugs. I developed a miss at 95k, changed my plugs (Motorcraft) and 1 bad cop (parts store brand), all good now. May want to buy some MAF sensor cleaner and throttle body cleaner, I did that also while changing plugs. Change your fuel filter if you don't know when that was last done either.
Thanks for the replys everybody; so far i'm looking at about 500$ in replacement parts. I will keep surfing the webb for better deals on what I need. Thanks again

It's still a 2v in 2003, right? Because I'll be facing the same thing in the next month or so.
alloro,
The biggest ticket items are the COP at around $45 each that is $360 for all 8, the plugs are $30-40 for the set, fuel filter is another $20 and the air filter is for my K&N CAI for another $60. I know I don't have to buy another air filter, just clean the one already on, but this way I just swap it out and take my time to clean the dirty one. The Expy is my daily driver and I can't aford to be sidelined for parts, drying times etc. I'm stationed in Italy, so I have to order all my parts and if I cant R2 them during the weekend them I have to figure out other means, which can be a pain sometimes.
No no no no. Go to eBay for COPs. You can get a full set of 8 for under $100. There's quite a few guys on here that have done it with good results. You could even get a set of 10 for the V10's for about $120 and have 2 spares.
I was gonna go the eBay route and change the COPs when I did the plugs at 100k. But the misfire at 95k and an immediate lack of funds forced me to do just the one bad COP and the plugs early. I guess now I'll just change my COPs out one by one as they fail.
Thanks for the advise Broncoholic.
Is there anyone here that has bought there COP's from ebay? If so, what was the outcome and names of the seller would be greatful....Thanks in advance
Thanks for the info Alloro, I was looking around ebay and also found a set from Accel. Has anybody used this brand and what were the results? The price for the set is $200 vs the price at autozone of $270.
I'm also thinking of replacing the fuel injectors, I've seen alot of replacement injectors on ebay. Is this a wise idea to buy from ebay and is there a brand that I should try to stick with?
why would you replace the coils if they are not bad? In my experience they either work or they don't, so there is no benefit to replacing all 8 if they are fine. In fact, you might even cause a problem you don't have...if its not broken, don't fix it.
