After looking around the best price I could find on rear springs was around $700 for the set. I didn't want to spend that much money, so I started looking at other options. My brother works for Advance and told me that had some coil over shocks from Monroe that might work. They had a set listed for my 67 F100. So for about $100, I got a set that are rated for 1250 lbs.
You can see the old springs were wore out. The only thing holding up the rear of the truck were the overload springs.
Height before about 18 1/4inches
You can see here that the truck had to be jacked up quite a bit to get them to fit.
Springs after; notice the gap between the main pack and the overload spring
Height after 21 1/2 inches
How the truck sits now (sorry for the dark picture)
TIP: Put the bottom end in first, it goes together ALOT easier that way.
It rides SO much better. I'm really pleased with the results so far. They have other options, so if you dont want it to lift the back that much you can find a set for a different application that are shorter.
The problem is that you are now using the shock mount as a load carring support. Are the thick enough to support the load you are putting on them?
I am sure they will work for a while but they will not hold up to much wieght.
I have not priced springs in a long time, I will be soon enough but I have in the past had the springs rebuilt and they were but $76-$100 each. There was a spring shop in St Louis where I lived at the time.
Yea, I had considered that. I don't haul a lot of weight, just some trips with the 4 wheeler on a trailer. My brother has this same set up on a S-10 and he hauls his motorcycle in it all the time without any trouble. So, I think I'll be ok.
I don't know of anyone in my area (S. Georgia) that does springs. The only place I've priced them is from NPD and LMC.
have you thought about a set of ADD A LEAVES there cheep and do a good job !
you can also get a set at a junk yard and take them apart and add 2 leaves to your present spring pack !!
