I've been trying to find a plow for my truck for years. Just can't justify 2 or 3 grand for a plow at this point. What setups do you guys have? I think if I coudl rig something up for under a grand I might do it.
haha, yeah I agree. I'm uncomfortable with anything over about 70*!!
Don't have the plow on yet, hoping to get it ready this weekend though perhaps. At least get the plow lift motor etc back on. I'll need to lower the plow brackets to make up for the lift too. Usually by the end of Oct is a safe goal for having it hung.
I got my plow with my old gasser F250 truck. 500.00 for truck and plow. It's an older style with the cable isarmatic control but it's dependable and works and that's what counts.
I currently have three trucks that will be setup for plows. One has a plow mounted. However the body's shot, it needs a total body swap.
Number two needs an engine swap, I have a bolt on harness that will fit it directly, it will need some wiring up grades and the like. However it needs an engine swap.
Number three I have a plow harness for, but no mounting brackets, so it will require some fabbing. It's going on the crewcab, so it will be the last one to be done, as it will be a backup truck.
Plows themselves, I have two 7.5', one steel, one poly, and the third is only a 7'. I want to find the add on (pin on) wings to add on to them, I understand that adds almost 2' to the width.
Pumps, I have three, two electric, one cable controlled. I'd like to find a third electric though, so that I can make everything interchangeable. Watching for a spare blade too, since one site that we plow requires plastic cutting edges, and I'd like to have one set up for that ready to go at anytime.
Have you guys got your plows ready. The white stuff is falling and has covered the ground in the last 30 minutes. lol
I haven't been around in awhile but I see you guys have it under control. lol I may be on more with this unemployment dust starting to fall.
Heck with even the thought of snow, but the cool weather feels good.
Now, where have you been? Thought maybe you got a powerstroke (like Dave) or something keeping you busy away from here. Haven't seen a post from yah in awhile.
And to be on topic, It seems easier to spend the money on a truck with a plow then buy a plow for a truck.
All I have left to do is get my new hoses made and I am ready for the snow! But with any luck at all we will never see any snow here as long as I own this plow lol. I figure it would be a reasonable trade off.
For you guys who haven't gotten a rig yet the best thing you can do is get the old Western pump unit and find a Meyers blade. I've used every single one out there and thats pretty much the most bullet proof combo out there. Meyers blades are nice and heavy to cut through the snow when back-dragging. The western pump is cable controlled so you don't have solenoids acting up like on a Meyers.
what do you guys think about this one?
i know nothing about plows.is this a minute mount plow?
how much are push plates for this plow?
should i keep looking for an 8' instead?
(from my local sell/swap/trade )
"7.5' Meyers plow, complete setup, about 3 or 4 years old, lightly used and in very good condition, was on 94 F250. It came with the truck and I don't need it. It is off the truck and ready to be installed on your vehicle with your push plates.$1,350.00 OBO"
seems like a great deal for such a new plow to me?
if no good, what years do i need to look for and how can i tell right off by pics that its a simple quick hook/unhook minute mount, leaving nothing heavy on the truck when i unhook it.
told ya.im a total noobie/clueless to plow guy lol.
That's a Classic mount, with a model 47 Meyer pump. To mount the plow you hook the chain up, lift to line up the pin holes, shove two pins through. (Similar to the pins for trailer hitches.) Then two hydraulic lines for the angle cylinders and away you go.
In the bottom pic, the piece on the left side, about middle from top to bottom, is the frame that bolts to the truck. It looks like some of the mounting brackets aren't there, I suspect that is what he is calling the 'push plates'. It's a decent price for it IF everything else is there. I say if because he doesn't mention the controller or headlight wiring harness. A controller will run you another 100 or so, and not sure about the light harness, that style should have about 6 relays in it if it uses the same harness as the one I have here.
