Hey I've noticed that my transmission after a good 2 hours or more of driving in 4th and i need to downshift to 3rd, it will slip. It's really really rare that this happens but I want to figure out if a fluid change will help this. I added fluid because it was low(because the seal between the shaft and tranny is bad). I haven't been driving long enough periods to see if this fixed it.
It's a 1993 F150 Flareside with 155k miles. When I test drove it, the fluid color looked fine, smelled ok and wasn't dark at all. So I'm not sure. I'm going to try and get a flush and my brothers shop as soon as I quit working 50+ hours a week.
Bolt number is irrelevant. Both the AOD and AODE use a 14 bolt pan....If it is indeed a 14 bolt pan does it have an OD button on the end of the shifter? If it's an AOD, it will have OD D 2 1 on the dash.
My shifter has P R N D with outline and D without the outline. Which I assume the no outline is overdrive off. I'll look after I get this concert practice done.
I said the bolt number is irrelevant because both the AOD and AODE use a 14 bolt pan, but they are NOT the same pan, the bolt placement is slightly different. Hence the reason I asked about the shift layout on the dash. Case in point:
Your right about that. Well the reason I said that is because alot of people think that just because its an overdrive automatic that its an AOD. Some of them end up having an E40D.
Ah, believe me I understand....the even rarer few such as me and yourself have the AODE. To the OP, mine will do the same thing sometimes if I've been driving a while or idling for a little while, My only guess is the transmission fluid is heating up. You might want to think about upgrading your cooler. I just need to route mine away from the exhaust pipes.
