Trans trouble (C4)

My truck will not shift into a forward gear. It used to have a delay from when I shifted into drive until it actually engaged so I decided to replace the fluid and filter. Well, upon installing the new filter I installed what I believe to be the pressure relief valve backwards and continued with the job. Well, I drove it and it was having problems shifting into 3rd. Then it had problems shifting into 2nd, then finally it wouldn't move forward, reverse only. I realized the pressure relief valve was *** backwards so I put it where it is supposed to be. Nothing changed. I don't know if that spring and pin being backwards did some detrimental damage to my trans or if this is an easy fix. I have a feeling if I tow it to a trans shop they will tell me it needs rebuilt or replaced even though it could be an easy fix. It is a shallow pan 11 bolt c4.

i've been through several C4's in my other car and usually when it would only go in reverse the trans had crapped out completely...i once had to drive about a mile in reverse to get home.
