i have a 1984 f150 2wd and want to run a set of 17x8 or 18x8 wheels. the wheels i want are from summit and are called the legend 5 which look like torque thrust wheels. the lug patterns only go up to a 5x5 not a 5x5.5 which i have. the adapters i need to swap to a 5x5 pattern are 1.25'' thick. does anybody know what kind of backspacing i will need to keep these in the fender wells. i think the stock backspacing was 4''???
I agree with Festus, wheel adapters are dangerous. I would not use them.
If you go back to Summit Racing and search for wheels with a 5 x 5.5" lug pattern and 8" wide, you will find 120 different wheels in 17" (ranging in price from $72 to $590) and 33 different wheels in 18" (ranging in price from $118 to $680). You should be able to find something you like with the correct lug pattern.
thanks for the advise guys. ive always been kind of hesitant to use adaptors. ive actually been thinking of running the 17x8 or 17x9 mickey thompson classic II. i just want to keep them tucked inside the wells because i plan on lowering the truck about 2'' and dont want any scrubing. nothing too low but a little more sporty clean look. i would really like to run a wider rim in there rear to give it an almost prostreet look without the tubbing. still not sure on how to figure out the backspacing to tuck the wheels
