Hello y'all,,,,so couple months ago clutch shredded ,got fixed,,,and was stiff, like high off the floor and i barely had to push in for it to engage.all seemed good until today I am travelling down the highway see a hitch hiker and pull over to help and we get in put in gear and go to shift and pedal just flops to the floor.Thought it was master pushrod fell off or something and cant really see.(by this time hitchhiker is like i'm outta here lol)anyways look under truck(1996 ford f-350 dually diesel 7.3)and slave is hanging by line,,get under and see that the rod end with the boot thing has blown off slave and i look around find a plunger? and a spring.Town i am in has no part for me so got one delivered and this is the wierd part,,,,the guy at part store says this is somewhat different because bore size is bigger, but i used anyway,,since it was only one they had and was stranded,,, Put it on and clutch is way softer now,,,like it springs back ok but dosent engage until low to the floor,,but shifts nice,,,,I don't know,,,,should I REPLACE WITH ANOTHER SLAVE OR MAYBE BLEED AGAIN????THANKS IN ADVANCE GUYS.
First and foremost, Welcome to FTE! We're glad to have you.
From my perspective, if the clutch pedal pressure is lighter, and it's easier to shift, I say leave it. But I would also like to know what slave cylinder that is. If he said it's the same, but bigger bore......we might have a hydrolics upgrade on our hands that you found. And that's big my friend. So any part #'s or info you have would be cool.
The cylinder bore obviously has to have enough fluid to fill it
With our stock master, the bore has to be proportional to the slaves bore to allow enough fluid to fill the bore.
So perhaps, what your noticing with the larger bore and the engagement area, is that its not completing a full stroke.
I wish I still had all the books, I had to leave them at buisness.
Gave the figures for bore/stroke/power yada yada.
Thanks guys,,,like they say If it ain't broke, don't fix it.But I am just afraid it will cause premature wear on clutch or something????
Yah i prefilled the cylinder before installation, and pumped the rod until it shot out the res.
Well let's have some more info and part #s so the smarter guys like Cody and William can tell me if I need to do what you did. My left leg sure is strong though!
While it sounds like a good opportunity.
Which it could be, too big a bore size on x amount of stroke leaves us with less power as well.
All depends on the rod diameter as well.
You just gotta be able to push x amount of liquid into the slave, otherwise that bigger bore is a hindrance.
So, if its a slave/master combo, it could be good. =)
Thanks Talyn and Rubberduck for the replies,,,I do notice the weaker clutch resistance now for sure,,,so what would i need? A bigger resevoir?Like i said it shifts nice but alot closer to the mat than i like.
