I went to change my CPS today and made a mistake. I loosened the fastener and while pulling it out, I dropped it. Looked for 1 hour on the ground to no avail. Does anyone know what size fastener to replace it with?
My truck died on my last Tuesday night pulling a trailer. After getting towed, I replaced the CPS on Thursday. The truck started up, so I rehooked the trailer and towed it to the mountains and back on Saturday. Saturday night, 40 miles from home my truck started cutting out. It felt like a transmission shimmy or loss of fuel (CPS Sensor comes to mind). I get it to the nearest exit and get a ride home. Today I replaced the 1 week old gray CPS with 200 miles on it with a new one. Truck won't start. It turns over, white smoke comes out, and the tach moves up about a 1/2 inch while cranking. It sounds like it wants to start. The truck is 1997 with 148k and the engine runs great, normally. Where do I go from here?
Well, I took the truck to a friend of mine. He pulled the ICP. It was wet in the connector so we replaced it. We also replaced the IPR. After replacement, the truck would not start, but was bellowing white smoke. My friend filled the fuel bowl with diesel, and while I cranked, he depressed the schrader valve to release the air. Truck fired right up and is running great. Thanks for the help!
Well, after throwing some parts at the truck it was running great. At least until I had to tow in to work this morning. Out of the blue it started running rough and then it died. Would not restart. Now, I am thinking the whole problem might be fuel pressure. I will hook the guage to the schrader valve and look for 18-22 PSI while cranking? Any help would be great.
Well, I keep throwing parts at this thing to no avail. I just filled the fuel bowl half full, bled the air, and started the truck. Runs great! Fuel pressure is bouncing between 45-70 psi at idle. Thing is, it did this the other day, and 5 miles down the road it shut off like it ran out of fuel. Where do I go from here?
After about 30 minutes of idling, the fuel pressure started to drop off and the motor started to stumble. Just purchased a fuel pump and related hardware. Hopefully this fixes it.
