please help 74 360

ive got a ford 360 with a automatic trans and elec ing. , it was running fine all the sudden it started missing just a little a little bit later it back fired and started runnin really bad did not feel like it was running on all cylenders , i pulled the cap and rotor and there was some oil all over under the cap so i replaced the cap and rotor and it stilll isnt runng very well any ideas please help if you can

its all i have to drive

Check the plug wires, make sure the distributor hold-down is tight, check for a vacuum leak, and as a sanity check make sure the timing is set correctly.

Did the new cap get oil all over it also? if so might be a distributor problem.

no oil under cap as of yet plugs look ok and timming is good could the electrics in the disturburter be gummed in side i was thinking spraying he hell out of it with break kleen good idea or bad

Did you actually check any of the stuff I told you to check?

FMC400 i did check what you told me to and same issue ,then i got a can of arosol elextrode cleaner was alot better and just a bit ago when its gettin derk i fired it up and found a pin whole in the number 1 wire it was sparking changed with old wire and bang runnin like a chanp so you were right for the most part little cleanning and a wire and itss good to go
