I was just wondering if certain people were partial to a particular family of engine. I hear a lot of people always lovin up on the FE's but then we have our displacement lovers sayin 385 series. Last (and least it seems like) we have a small amount of people who say the Modifies were the best motors ever built. Vote, state your thoughts, and rip apart people who think differently lol. Have fun.
I voted 385 series. Longest production run, more aftermarket, more cubes, whats not to like. You can't really go wrong with an FE though, unless you are doing something really extreme. In that case the 385 really shines there.

I know a lot of people like the 351m/400 but I don't think I've actually ever heard anyone say they are the best motors ever built. lol.
When I first saw the option for Mod, I thought you meant mod motor as in 4.6, 5.4, etc.
Windsor might have been nice to have here as well.
460 for sure. Good aftermarket support and it can be stroked to 557 cubes. Relatively long production run in a single form unlike the FE's 352-360-390 evolution.
FEs are classic but a dying breed. Parts are Freaking Expensive. Oiling system needs help in high performance builds.
The project in my head wears a 460 and has 600 HP... if only I had another spot to park it... that's my trouble with living in suburbia.

The first FE engine was the 361 Edsel, the 390 lived from 1960-1976. There was no real evolution with the 352 and 390 living side by side except for over a year (late 58 to early 60)
There are no oiling problems either. Urban Myth propagated from that moron Steve Christ and his equally moronic "how to Build Big Block FE Engines"
fe was a very good platform only thing that killed it (in my opinion) was the onset of emmission controls, and (also only my opinion) the mods didnt do all that hot a job dealing with it either
I was pondering the same question...400 or 460....
I chose the 460 and picked one up yesterday morning.
Why? Simple...I drive a big old red white and blue american gas sucking beast with 4x4, big tires and loud exhaust...people hear me coming, the gas company's love me, and people behind me smell my emissions, lol (no cats ftw)
In a truck that I bought to make a statement against all the modern imported garbage and hybrids, there is only one engine that has a home in my truck...the biggest damned engine I can find. (not only that, but if I ever come across one more damned m engine with poor oiling issues, I think I'm going to go postal and freak out)
