Wow that is just scary. My first vehicle ever that I bought in high school was a 87 Ford F150 with 4 inches of lift and 33 inch tires. It used to get really bad death wobble and I would have to plant both feet on the brake pedal and come to a screeching halt. That truck had the TTB front end and everything was pretty much worn out and I figured that was what caused it.

Now in my 05 F350 I get very very minor death wobble if I hit a bump in the road. But it is nowhere near as bad as that video.

Does anybody have any idea what causes it in our trucks?

I think that would be associated with the steering stabilizer, or lack there of. Maybe time to install a good stabilizer.

I had a bit of a wobble when going around sweeping corners on the interstate. I changed out the steering stabilizer and now its gone . Only thing I would say it to use the ford replacement because the rancho and monroe will rub the lower radiator hose.

Back in 1970 this was caused by tire balance. However I sure would check everything in the front-end.:

mine did the same thing or worse after i installed a rough country 3 inch lift. it changed the caster and that was enough to scare the heck out of me. a set of dual s/s stopped it but its only a bandaid. mine was so bad it snapped the trac bar....NOT FUN

That is crazy, I never heard of or seen anything like that before. Pretty ballzy for provolking it, but good job on getting it on video. I would be taking that to the mechanic and asking him WTH causes that.

I have seen a few references to it, but I never knew it was that bad. Thankful that it did not seem to affect that many trucks. When I first bought my truck and read about "death wobble" I thought it was what happened to me when I went over bumps and my steering would jerk a tiny bit. I found this to be operator error though since my left hand was not at 12 o'clock on the steering wheel so the bump made my arm pull the wheel down a tiny bit. (hope that made sense). So now I am satisfied that I do not have the dreaded "death wobble"!!

There has been alot of discussion here on the forum about the death wobble and so far the best fix is the steering stabilizer. But to my knowlege no one has really figured out what causes it. I believe also that low tire pressure was a contributing factor.
