trailer light issue

i have a 1990 f350 that i am trying to hook trailer lights up to. I tested my wiring harness for continuity and everything checked out. I have 4 wires coming from the harness. and 4 wired coming from trailer hook up piece. The truck harness has black wire, Orange w/ Blue Stripe, brown wire, Black w/ Pink wire.. my trailer hook up piece has green, yellow, brown and white. I know that the black and white are the ground. when i hooked the black w. pink to the brown wire i had running lights but no break or signal light. Can someone please tell me which wire goes with what? thanks a lot for the help

Use a voltage meter and you should be able to figure it out.
