Hey guys, i picked up a 1993 Extended cab F-250 7.3 4X4 to swap the zf into my 1997 F-250 Ext cab. Ever since the truck has been sitting at my shop my auto is slipping worse and worse everytime i drive it. So im going to start the swap here soon...First im going to gut the donor truck and blast the drive shafts and paint them. And clean everything..little at a time. When i do this project what extra will i need...Do i take the wiring harness for the zf out of the parts truck? I cant seem to find the write up for this project.
I know you will at the minimum you have to have the PCM reflashed. Manuals fuel different than automatics. You truck will run and drive after the swap without reprogramming, but you won't even want to drive it.
You can use the auto PCM with a manual trans with no problems. You don't HAVE to reflash it, but I would get a chip for a manual later anyways.
Redman84 did this swap and did a really good writeup on it a few months ago. I'll try to find it for you. Send him a PM, he had lots of info and knows how to do all the wiring so it all works right.
Here you go. I think this one may be pretty useful. You may remember it. After all, it is your thread... And with both of our swaps being from and extended cab to extended cab the driveshaft issues should be similar. Is your truck 2 or 4wd? https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...peed-swap.html
Also, here's one I put up on PSN. I thought I put it up here too but can't find it. It addresses cruise control problems after the swap. Trans swappers READ-cruise control fixed - Powerstroke Nation
You can run the auto PCM after your swap too. I had the choice of running a manual PCM and not having cruise or running my auto and having cruise. I chose the one with CC. Soon enough I'll get it reburned or get a chip but until then...
