Hey all. So my collection is growing...picking up a 1971 Single cab Short bed F250 2x4 with an 02 7.3 and a ZF5 in it. Old man did a very clean swap and even swapped the AC over! That being said, it has a few issues. The main issue being the dual mass flywheel is toast. it drives alright, but when you rev it up at idle or put the clutch in under any load, it chatters and vibrates the whole truck and almost bogs the motor down a little. Im going to just throw a new clutch and SMF in it, but the old mans widow has no idea what year the zf5 is. It lists different options for the zf5 flywheels (idi v psd). If i get a new clutch and SMF, will a PSD one bolt up to a IDI zf5? And vice versa?
I believe u would need the one for the psd because the idi has a different bolt pattern on the crank so that option won't even bolt to your motor as far as the zf5 goes they are both the same as long as it's diesel the s42 (idi) and s47 (psd) use the same clutch when bolted to a 7.3psd
As stated above you need the flywheel for the stroke, the IDIs are different, and will not bolt up to the stroke. The clutch and pressure plate will interchange. The early stroke came with the S42 ZF5. It wasn't until the 96 model that got the S47 ZF5, but they will interchange.
