6.0 Cooler!

Might be doing some work on my truck soon and want to add a 6.0 cooler while I'm at it. Want to try to get this all done ASAP. Where is the best place to buy a 6.0 cooler. I don't know if I want to wait for shipping from an online store (I'm rushing I know, but I have Wednesday off and want to ge this done ). Am I going to take a huge bath on the price if I got to Ford and get one or should I order one online and just wait?

They're pretty pricey brand new, especially from the dealer (like $400+). I got mine online for $100...

A brand new 26 row cooler went for $271 shipped on ebay today. Ed sells them for just over $300 plus shipping, I guess.

Get a 31 row unit if possible. Getting harder to find, no doubt.

Yeah, I'm looking for a 31 row. Heck, if they made a 70 row I'd be getting that. Can't keep that transmission too cool IMO. The best I can find is at Dfuser, but $465 is rough. Free shipping is nice tho!:

The 27 row is the newer, more efficient design of the 2 actually.

Interesting, Chase. Do you have any heat transfer info that shows how much difference there is between the two? I've always wondered about the difference, but never seen any data on it.

How so? I have a 26-row, but don't see how it's more efficient...what am I missing?

I don't have supporting data, but Mark K. Says the 26 row is more efficient, making the premium for the 31 not worth it. FWIW, I run the 26 row here in 110 deg summers and I see 140-150 max trans temps emptry. Towing 7k+ in the same heat I saw 180 tops at 75 mph...

EDIT: Also, the 26-row IS the newer version. It went in the 05s & up. The 31-row went in the 03/04 6.0Ls....

I bought a 26 row from partsguyed and it seems like it will do the job. I did have a problem with the hose leaking that was factory installed. Replace the hose or at least put a better hose clamp on it. I think it was like $321 shipped if I remember right.

Its good to know that the 26 MAY be better. I like idea of saving some money. Thanks for all the info guys, keep it coming. How hard is the install? I've heard you have to pull the front bumper off?

I have a 25 row cooler, and it does fine keeping temps down. I tow an 8500# trailer and have yet to see 180 degrees when towing. Got close once this summer when it was 100 degrees out, but I was only going 40 MPH. Empty I run 125-140 pretty much all the time.

I put together a "How To" for installing a 6.0 cooler based on the way I did mine. Everyone on all the forums seems to ask the same question so I put this together.

It's easy I did a write up doing it on an early 99 somewhere on here. If you are a pretty competent mechanic an afternoon should be all you need to put it on.
