festus if this link works then look at the ( fuel return orifice and check valve ) that is what i am referring to . it ether has a ball and spring or a rubber flap type of check valve , mine had the rubber flap type . take it out and if you can blow threw it both ways then it is shot and will cause a hard to start problem .
sure did and in 2 years running have not had any problems , from what i could tell all that was for was to help get the air out of the system automatically . is that what it is or have i just been lucky festus ?
I had issues with the check return from the filter head and blocked it off as well, and it worked fine. However, do NOT block the line from the injection pump, as it will not run if you do. Had that happen on an IH tractor, the shaft for the IP broke, so my dad picked up a used pump. The return line was blocked with gunk, and it would not run. After I figured that out, got it cleaned up, it has been running ever since.
Yes and No, It's just that you are not a NOVICE with these trucks ...
The filter is the highest point, thats where air needs to be bleed out!
Removing the Filter return prevents easy starts after running out of Fuel requiring user intervention. These systems are designed for the general public, that means when one runs out of fuel, all one needs to do is add fuel and crank to start, the whole reason for the development of the return system.
As well as the fact that some air does travel with the fuel and collects at the highest point, so air builds up in your filter, some may get pushed DOWN HILL into the IP to escape, not all!
You on the other hand will bleed it!
So, The right thing to do with folks on a site like this is to give them the PROPER fix and not tell them to hack up their truck that could cause them more issues, especially a novice Diesel owner!
The proper fix to your problem is to seal the down stream air leak you have on that return line and hook it back up!
That check valve is pointless ... If the system is in good proper configuration and working order.
since im in a similer spot just have to ask how hot does the ip normally get. I could easily see the valve your talking about be bad on mine. the vac check valve for my breaks worked great as a whisle.... wouldent be suprised if this one has gone bad on me to
