I'd love to stuff a CAT in, unfortunately they are to heavy ...

I've done a bit of research, the Cummins is pretty much the best all around package for installation into these trucks IMO, yup there is a lot of them, I don't wonder why, I could care less how many have been done, I want something practical that serves my purpose and does it's job.

Personally, I do not want to use that high of a rear gear ratio (3.55), I would rather have the gears in the transmission then the rear end, high gears (low number) in a rear end create a lot of stress on the driveline and components...

I would love something like:
4.56 rears with a .48 over drive.
4.10 rears with a .54 over drive.
However, those over drive ratio ranges are not available ... Except via another gear box (brownie) and that adds weight.

-Enjoy

When I did my swap I had 4:10's in the truck and ran them for about a year before I went to the 3:55's. I have c6, Gearvendors Overdrive and 35" tires. The 3:55's are a much better gear for the truck, even with the 35" tires.

DT360/Eaton 6sp overdrive would be my choice and is in my plans in the future.

Some guy on here has already had injectors and an adapter plate for different pumps made. Add a turbo to that and that's all you need to make plenty of power.

Hypermax also has HP level kits out there as well. Plenty of support to beat down a cummins.

The 89-93 (I believe) already have P-Pumps and that's enough for most people.

The 89-93 12V's are running the Bosch VE pump, which is a rotary injection pump. They are easier to wire up, as the fuel shut off is a single post, internal shut off. You just wire it to the ignition hot wire, and you're running. Other nice thing about the VE pumps is that they are fairly cheap to mod (1 governor spring ~$10-15, and you custom grind your fuel pin), but they aren't good for much more than 400hp. 90 or 91 is when they started running intercoolers.

The 94-early 98 12V's run the P-pump. The P-pump utilizes the external shut off, and requires a bit more wiring, BUT the P-pump is the big HP pump.

I was referring to the stock pump on the DT360, not the Cummins.

They never offered a p pump on a 300 series engine(dt360), the p pumps were on the 400 series and up engines from like 91-some 95 models, the 360 either had a mw pump, wich was a rotary pump like the cummins ve pumps, and the a pump wich was an inline pump like the p, talked to some tractor pullers who run the a pump and it can produce 900cc of fuel, thats enough to support 1800hp(1cc of fuel= 2hp) with proper setup according to hypermax, i have a 360 im getting ready to put in my 94, making my own adapter plate to use my zf-5 trans, rear motor mounts will be in the adapter plate and will make a new front crossmember to mount front of engine, the 360 outweighs the 7.3 by a lot, its like 1300lbs give or take, but a p pump off a dt466 can be installed with a little machine work to make a new drive hub, wet sleeve design is much better i think, one cly head instead of six eliminates head gasket issues like the 12v cummins, if you see this head youll understand why hypermax claims it will handle 100+ psi of boost on factory head gaskets with no fire rings... easy to build cause all u need for hp is fuel and big wind, so why do i need support from cummins guys that just buy all their parts from a catalog... i like to be different... screw those cummins in a ford truck, internaional put the first diesels in ford trucks and im not gonna change that, i like the inline 6 idea, just cant bring myself to put a freakin dodge motor in my ford, when its done i will challange any cummins motor, plus these are a dime a dozen and a lot cheaper to buy than a cummins....

good luck all and keep it in the family....the ford navistar family that is.....
