Sorry you got offended by my responce but I'm not saying you are stupid. (just not street wise). For $10-$30 you can apply the same coating yourself. I have a family member thats a new/used car salesman so it's a basic fact you got took and fatten their wallets.
Even if you were saying I'm stupid I still wouldn't be offended. I guess your "street wise" time is just not as valuable as my time! The raw numbers speak for themselves. To apply an equivalent coating myself oh say twice a year would take approximately 4 hours. 4 hours x my $60 an hour = $240 a year in just labor. NOT including purchasing any product. $240 a year x the 7 year Ford/Simonize warranty = $1,680. Again not including any product. Now lets look at the choices. With Ford and Simonize you can spend $249 for seven years worth of protection, gain a warranty and not have 28 hours of strenuous labor. Or, with "street wise" you can spend 28 hours of strenuous labor buy your own product and have nothing if the protection fails. "Street wise" looks pretty silly in my book! No thanks I'll spend $249 and spend more time with my family all the while having a truck that is warranted and just as good if not better than the tired "street wise".
Umm, if my math is correct, half of $999 is somewhere around $499.50
Your math is correct, but your reading comprehension neads work. I said $999 at 50% off of which the dealer paid half and I paid half. That would be $999 x .50 = $499.50. Dealer's half = 249.75, my half = 249.75.
Its basically a high profit margin upsell package usually dealers try to get their new vehicle customers to buy. One local dealer had all new vehicles with an additional sticker next to the oem and every vehicle had "the protector" package with $1000 additional. .

So they wax your truck twice a year then? that would be a good deal.
249.00 is a great deal to have a warranted finish. I don't wax my truck, until I stop by the full service car wash for my once-a-year wash. I would pay 249.00 to have the finish guaranteed for 7 years.

That's exactly how I looked at it! Not to mention the time and effort saved. $999 Nah, but $249 I'm in!
I paid for the warranty when we bought the '07 F150 as the sun in Arizona is vicious on anything painted. The truck was garaged about half the time we owned it and I never saw any evidence of sun damage. The F250 we bought three weeks ago also has the finish applied but I didn't pay for the warranty, which was $999 including seat stain coverage. Whatever products used had already been applied and I figure they know it will last through the life of the warranty period anyway, so why pay for it. They didn't even try to sell it to me, I just asked them to remove the cost from the vehicle and they did. I think it's one of those items they know you'll buy once and probably never again.

Thanks! That's the kind of input I was looking for. I didn't care if it was positive, or negative, but just someone with some actual experience over time.
