79 f150 steering columns

Alright i just baught a new project its about 5 different colors and needs some work but that why i baught it. i have a few steering columns laying around from previous projects seeing how this is number four, they have all been a 79 and 1 78. So to get to the point i have 2 4wd steering columns and one 2wd, the 2wd column is the nicest but i need the 4wd steering shaft the splined end not the rag joint end. i was woundering if the only difference between a 4wd and a 2wd column is the shaft ends. i was thinking that maybe i could pull all the internals out of the 2wd column and which the shafts and go with that. the two 4wd ones as a little rough i have one were its got some rust from being in a mud truck but nothing a little tlc wouldnt take care of and the other 4wd one is broke somewhere internaly. so sould i take the easy route and clean up the rusty one or should i go the not so easy route and switch all the internals out? thanks for the help and ideas and sorry for any confussion there might be.

dan
