Yes, there can be different stages that you build your engine to. How mild or radical a build-up is usually centers around the cam and intake system.
For most modifications headers are a given along with a free flowing exhaust. Stock heads, if they're in good shape, are adequate for a mild to medium build up, maybe do some port matching and a good valve job.
The cam is the big determining factor in how radical the build will be and you need to pick your intake system to match the cam, or vis-versa.
If its a daily driver you don't want to go too radical.
Only you can decide how "rad" you want to go, but you need to be honest about how you're going to use it, and how much money you're willing to spend.
BTW welcome to FTE, lots of good knowledgeable people here that are more than willing to help out.

well Mike majority on the road but not a daily driver but when its time to have fun I will play and hard sum times. see cause im going 9" skyjacker sus. lift with 38's dont know which ones exact, I am installing a spool in the 9" rear end. moneys is always an issue no matter what, but i dont want to spend 4 thousand for an engine either. I dont want it to be sluggish with those 38's, you get what i want. It probably sounds confusing I know, i appolgize for that. Thanks for the info and advise.

With 38's seriously look at installing a low ratio ring & pinion or else no matter what you do it'll feel sluggish.
