What is the "Emissions" light hooked too? I'm just curious.
I have no emissions equipment whatsoever, and there was no bulb in the Emissions light. Not knowing what it was, I put one in. It came on when I first turned the key on, then went off, so I thought nothing of it. Then a few days ago it came on and stayed on. Curious, IMO...
I'm really just curious what it hooks too, what makes it light up, etc. I would think it'd hook to the smog pump setup somehow, but I have seen no wires in my engine bay that are unused, I'd have noticed when I did the engine swap.
It's lit up every ~60,000 miles by what Ford calls an Implied Mileage Sensor, the light's
purpose is merely to remind the owner to have the engine serviced (during which time
the sensor is reset).
My son's 1984 F-150 w/4.9L has 180,000 miles. I purchased it with ~76,000 miles on it. The truck is very much original. The emissions light comes on momentarily at each start-up, but has never stayed on. The Implied Mileage Sensor must not be functioning.
Interesting! I remember having a customer with a Dodoge/Chyrsler several years ago that had a non-resetable emissions reminder module I had to replace.... I remember thinking it was a stupid idea!
Anyone know where in the dash it goes? I'd rather reset it than pull the bulb...
I'll go look in my manual too... no mention of it that I ever saw, but I was never looking....
