Need a little help here so I can quit looking at this part like a hog looking at a wristwatch. The inner and outer window "scrapers" on the front doors of my truck are dry rotted and have disintegrated. I bought replacement door panels and they came with the inner scrapers on them so problem solved there. I cannot however, for the life of me figure out how to remove the old outer window scraper and then install the new one. The thing has these clips on it, but it still doesn't help me understand how it goes on or what it clips too. Does the window need to come out of the door first to replace these scrapers? Thanks for the help. This place has been invaluable to my restoration project.
That piece is the beltline weatherstrip. The steel door panel has 3-4 elongated holes that hold the clips for the weatherstrip. Its been a number of year since I did mine, so I don't recall how the clips are removed....
I know that somebody at one time posted some pretty decent info on this but it was about
1.5 or so years ago. You might search the archives. Or, perhaps more useful, google finds
about 99 hits in all of the forums for "beltline". beltline site:ford-trucks.com/forums - Google Search
Thanks parr4 and ctubutis. It helps to know the actual name of the part you are working with. I knew scraper wasn't right, but that was the best word I could come up with to describe it. I'll look and see what I can find for beltline. What is really throwing me is the fact that the one currently installed is just about completely gone at the top so there is little visible or able to be grabbed onto.
Beltline weatherstriping
Door Glass anti-rattler (Ford Name)
Window Anti-rattler
These are obsolete from Ford now, but last time I checked they had well over a 100 for each side avaliable. While supplies last etc...
You can replace them without removing the door panels in the post mentioned, but it's more difficult and is not the recognised proceedure. Take a flat screwdriver and pry up underneath the outside lip untill it's removed. If the weatherstrip is badly disentigrated, pulling up on it with pliers may be needed. The clips are spring loaded. Replace by pushing the weatherstrip down into the slots untill the clips engage.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I hope the thing will hold together while I grip it with pliers.
