2011 engines and model availability

if i read right the 6.2 and the ecoboost engine are not available in the xl,stx,or xlt.why doesnt ford offer these in a truck that the average person buys.whats wrong with letting us have a xl,6.2,automatic ,355 gears.dodge has a sport version of there truck so why not ford.can you say LIGHTNING!!!

Ecoboost is available in all configurations except regular cab short bed. It has been speculated that Ford is limiting 6.2 availability because of CAFE requirements, but the 6.2 is E85 capable. Those engines have HUGE CAFE numbers, so I don't think that's it.

My speculation is that the only reason the 6.2 is offered at all except in the Harley, Raptor, and Lariat Limited is the late availability of the Ecoboost and the folks who just aren't ready to buy into the Ecoboost as towing machine.

I would expect Ford to further limit the 6.2 availability in the F150 in the future once the Ecoboost catches on. I think that's a major reason you are going to see an Ecoboost powered Raptor run the Baja. Once that's successfully done, they'll put it in the Raptor. Once again, that is strictly my humble opinion, and it is very humble indeed.

It's pretty hard to compare Dodge's motives to anyones. Dodge is drowning in their own blood. Fiat is only a bandaide.

I think that the CAFE numbers is exactly why we won't see the 6.2L across the board. It's also pretty hard top pass the R&D costs of this engine on to the consumer in an entry level truck.

Ford has no faith in us choosing the EB on its own merit. They must force us to do it by limiting the 6.2L AND by not including the 5.0L in the Max tow Pkg.

What does the max to pkg really gain you? And I mean actual hardware? What "part" allows you to tow a mere 13% more?

Used to be a extra leaf (unless you had 20's), bigger eye bolt, diff steering ratio. Now what? What drives the payload from 7,200 to 7,650/7,700?

The limit the availability to drive up sales of their higher profit vehicles. The availability will expand when they have milked all of the higher profit sales they can.

Yeah but the problem here is that for those people who want to tow massive loads but don't want the Ecoboost, The 6.2L is only other option for that kind of work and with the cheapest model the 6.2L Can be had (Lariat with Max tow pckge) Can easily wind up costing 45K or more, Especially considering the 6.2L is only available in crew cab models. If Ford doesn't want to offer (Or can't) offer the 6.2L across the board in all models. Then it should be at least offered in the XL or XLT's so it can be had for 28 to 35K instead of 45K+

I would also hope the Ford does not further limit the availability of the 6.2L even if the Ecoboost proves to be a successful truck engine, there is still many people who would rather have the option of a large displacement V8 (Myself included) Its all about variety which is something Ford has normally always been really good at. You know to be honest I was planning on buying a 2011 Lariat JUST to get the 6.2L But upon learning that its only available in crew cab models with a 5.5 foot bed. I said no way. So now I'm going to get a 2011 FX4 extended cab 6.5 foot bed (The truck I always wanted) with the 5.0L V8. But as you said this is all my humble opinion...Except for buying a new truck soon, That's a fact!

There's no reason to pay $45K plus for a 6.2L equipped truck, it's the base engine in the Superduty. Somewhere along the line, some folks have forgotten that. Yeah, I know, the SD isn't going to give the plush road manners of the F-150 but it's a beast and it's built for work and pleasure.

I dunno about plush, but the F250 CC SB that I tested the other day rode like a caddy with my butt 4 feet in the air. It was a diesel, but it was $55+K clams.

You can custom configure an XLT F250 CC SB truck with a 6.2 liter for $39k and change.

I doubt the fuel economy is that much different, and I do believe every SuperDuty comes with the MaxTow package.

Hmm...$39K or $45K? Pretty much a no-brainer. Don't need no stinkin' EcoToot. More parts to break.

Ford is trying to drive EB sales simply for regulatory reasons guys. How does that work you ask? They have to submit estimated sales projections to meet their estimated total fuel economy numbers, company wide.
