A4LD Compatability

I'm assuming all A4ld's are the same, so would one out of a 94 explorer drop into a 91 without alteration?

I found a guy not too far with one claiming it is from a wrecked 94 with 50k on it, and "gaurantees" it is in great shape, in that I could come back and get my money if it is not. He wants $450 for it with T/C included. Does this sound like a deal to jump on? Is it worth the $450 or should I try to talk down? I've been building and restoring bikes for years, do my own auto repairs, but first time dealing with a tranny.

Thanks - Lou

All A4LDs are not the same. There are variations in the location of the speed sensor. That the big hangup there. The newer ones do get stronger internally.

I would rebuild our old trans, in the long run its cheaper, works better, and lasts longer.

I dig,

I am planning on rebuilding my trans, but can't have the truck OOS for more than a weekend. I'm willing to chance that the replacement will get by until I rebuild mine and swap it in (hell, then why not rebuild the other one then too?)

Does anyone know where I can find if the speed sensor is located in the same place?
