Another ABS light problem

My ABS light in my 2004 Explorer comes on while driving and has been doing so for over a year. It only happens when I step hard on the gas. Like when pulling out into fast moving traffic. If I drive slowly and step lightly on the gas pedal it won't come on. Once it's on it stays on until I shut the car off and it might not come on everytime I drive it. I already changed the rear speed sensor on top of the differential and the ABS light stayed off for about a day then started doing it again. I'm not sure that changing the speed sensor really did anything at all.

Any suggestions?

ABS scan tools are under $100 now so many shops. even smaller ones, should have them. The best bet is to get the codes scanned and go from there.

Something else to check would be the brake fluid level. Make sure it's topped up. Could be that it detects the level is low during the harder acceleration and makes the light come on. Not sure if it is really tied in like that but it's worth a try.

My first thought too but the fluid level/parking brake is indicated by the red "BRAKE" light and the "ABS" is the amber lamp.....according to what I read in the owners manual for his vehicle.

I agree. You really need to get the code. It will tell you what wheel is the problem... It does sound like a wheel sensor. But until you get the code you could be replacing parts that dont need to be. Could even be as simple as a front wheel sensor gumed up and not reading the wheel at times....

ye this is sensor that is on your main brake pump. I am sure that your Cruze control dose not work when the light is on. is cost $20-30 and just one min to instal.. Good look :-)
