hello i have a few question that have been running through my mind that i need clarified ok well heres what i did i have a 91 f150 with the e4od in it that was bad so i found a really good deal on a rebuilt one so i jumped on it not looking at the year it was made. it a 97 e4od so ik the electrical is all different i already swapped over the mlps from my 91 to the new one. but i dont know what else has to be swapped over and i really dont want to have to go inside the tranny. its already in the truck and the swap was done. i tried starting it and it didnt do anything so i jumped the solnoid , taking all the sensors out of the equation, and it started up great. so im thinking it is one of the sensors on the tranny but i also have some other things disconnected sinice im kinda restoring the truck. i have one gas tank un wired i have the brake lights unwired, i dont know if this matters but i read on here that when the antilock rear light is on it b affecting the tranny. so i dont know what could causing it to not start by key. i was also concidering the stand alone computer for my e4od since i dont know if the computer from a 91 will run an e4od from 97. This would most likely b my last resort since that is near 500 dollars. i really apreciate any input so thanks
The cranking problem would be the MLPS that you replaced not being adjusted right or some other problem in your truck. It would have nothing to do with the transmission itself or the rear end/PSOM/speedometer area.
How did you plug the solenoid pack plug into the transmission on the passenger side?
The 97 has a different plug on the solenoid pack than the 1991.
the one for the solnoid pack but im not sure about either. i already changed the mlps over which ive read is what to do but im not sure about the solnoid pack. i dont want to have to go in the tranny.
I saw a wiring adapter on ebay to do the solenoid pack from 90 to 96, I think it was around $20. mlps for the 97 won't start the 91. you have to put the 91 on the new trans.there is a line BESIDE where the notch is. that is what you line up, NOT the notch with the arrow.do this with the gear selector unhooked, then adjust the gear selector cable to just slip on. if it is not adjusted, the mlps will be off again.
